The Strongman Challenge Team met and have made some changes to the registration process for the 2008 event:
In an attempt to avoid last minutes cancellations, a registration fee of $50 has been implemented. This fee will be refundable if cancellation is received by July 15th, 2008. This will include 2 t-shirts, water, fruits, accommodation, Sunday breakfast, Saturday and Sunday dinner. Other incentives may be added; they will be advertized when and if confirmed. Invitations will go out as follows: Those that participated last year will get first priority. Invitations will got out at the end of March and shall be received along with the registration fee, by May 15th, 2008. Following, invitations will be sent to all others and an open invitation will be posted on the sites. With the help of stat sheets, the promoters reserve the right to accept or reject registrations received. Some changes has also been brought in the distribution of places available; while there are still 17 places available, they will be divided as follow: 1 for the OSM 2008 winner, 6 Ontario, 2 West, 2 East, 2 Quebec, 2 Americans and 2 open. It should also be noted that should you have registered to the OSM competition, a no show without cancellation with the OSM promoters will take away your opportunity to participate in the Strongman Challenge 2008 event. As far as the events are concerned, they have been narrowed down. Little Al will be posting them on this site and the Strongman Challenge site very soon. |

Contest Report | ||

A very fun weekend. The people of Dubreulville are awesome. We were treated very well. Thanks to all involved.
Event 1 - Viking Press - 280 lbs I drew 11 which was good because all the big pressers went before me. The # to beat was 14 but I was hoping for 9 to tie Tyler. I got 8 and could not get the 9th. Fairly happy with this result. Event 2 - Car DL I suck. Could not get a rep. #1 priority this winter is to improve this event. Luke pulled 5 to win. Event 3 - Crucifix - 30 lbs I thought a time of 40 seconds would win. I had been getting 30 in practice so I needed to put in a performance. I was shaking at 20 but then got in a zone and held on for 47.47 seconds. Higa was 2nd at 41 seconds. Event 4 - Atlas Stones to 54 inch pillars Very confident going into this event. Maybe overconfident. First 2 stones a breeze. 3rd stone thought I had it on and it rolled off. Got a liitle panicy and had trouble repicking. When I finally calmed down I picked and placed it easily. My shirt somehow got trapped between the stone and the pillar so I had to rip my shirt free ( this made me quite angry ) I had a little time left and 1/2 a shirt and I easily loaded the 4th stone. Again my shirt got trapped between the pillar and the rock. I was then out of time. Mike and Len loaded all 5. I think I had a 6th place finish. It was not a pretty site me in a 1/2 tee. In 7th place after day 1. Frustrated. Day 2 Max Log My log has fallen off. I was hoping for a 320 but settled for a 300. The clean really bothered my bicep. Jose pushed an easy 350. Truck Pull - Harness - Not a huge weight but weights dragging behind and incline made this very difficult. My first harness pull of the year and it showed. I had great speed initially. Then I started swaying side to side. Finished about 5th. Len and Chris only 2 to finish. Frame Carry - 60 ft there set down 60 ft back - 310'sh / hand A fun event. Grip felt great. Had a time of 27.97. Should of went a bit faster. Mike, len and Chris beat me by just a second or two. Jeff P dominated in like 22. Medley - 275 FW 60 ft - 700 Yoke - 20 ft - 3 Fingal Fingers Fairly tough. Tired by the end. I had a decent time of 67 seconds to finish 3rd. Jeff p again just destroyed in like 42 seconds. Overall To many mistakes. Need to be able to Car DL. I had a chance to win and I didn't. Chris Canada - The BIG man is impressive. Came from 9th after Day 1 to win. Very nice guy. Jose - Battled through in front of the hometown. A great showing. Mike Saunders - A very good athlete. Suprised me. Luke Skaarup - Reminds me of Scott Cummine. No quit. Good DL Tyler - Issues with keeping his shirt on cost him. Grant Higa - Had a blast hanging out with him this weekend. I want to call everybody Bro now. A fun weekend. And I am fired up about training for next year. |
