On June 18th, Eau Claire Market in Calgary, Alberta will be hosting the 2011 Alberta's Strongest Man competition. There will be two weight classes: Light heavyweight 230lbs and under and Heavyweight 231lbs and over. Both classes will compete in the same events using the same weights although the highest place finisher in each class will win the title as Alberta's Strongest Man for LHW or HW.
The athlete which acquires the most po...ints overall shall take the "Overall Champion" for Alberta's Strongest Man 2011. Athletes who only reside in Alberta are eligible to compete.
The events are as follows:
1. Farmer's Walk - 250lbs/hand for 30'. 300lbs/hand for 30', 330lbs/hand for 30'. Fastest time wins. * Only chalk allowed. No other grip aids permitted.
2. Heavy Metal Carry for max distance - Similar to the Husafel Stone carry, athletes will pick up a 353lb metal object from the ground and carry it in front of their body as far as possible. Furthest distance carried wins. * Only chalk permitted in the hands. No other support aids in the hands permitted.
3. Overhead pressing medley - 4 objects Something like - 220 axle clean and press, circus dumbbell clean and press (120lbs - 130lbs), 275lb log, 172lb thomas inch dumbbell clean and press. * No straps allowed.
4. Last Man Standing Deadlift - Olympic bar will be lifted from the ground to full lockout of knees, back and hips. Weight will start at 455lbs. Chalk, straps, suits and hitching allowed. *
5.Atlas Stones - 5 stones will be lifted from the ground to a platform. 250lbs, 305lbs, 340lbs, 375lbs, 420lbs stones. This will be the heaviest 5 stone run in Canadian strongman history. The platforms will be low to balance out the weight.* Tacky permitted.

1st place for Light heavyweight and Heavyweight classes will EACH receive cash prizes, trophies and a Circus Dumbbell (based on a majority vote from competitive athletes).
2nd place finishers - Cash prize and trophy.
3rd place finishers - Cash prize and trophy.
Organizers are also working on additional prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.
Although the weather is expected is to be pleasant, if the weather becomes unfit to compete in, the competition shall be moved inside the Eau Claire Market.
